January 11th, 2018
Dear Parents,
Tomorrow, Friday January 12th is
our annual Camas Ridge Dream March. We
will be marching with our Community Time classes. The assembly begins at 12:30
and the festivities should be over around 1:30. All families and siblings are
welcome to come and march with us. It is
always a very exciting event.
This week we finally started
construction of our Medieval Castles. Students are learning vocabulary words
such as battlements, bailey, keep, tower, barbican, drawbridge, etc… It has
been quite the engineering project to wrap up our historical study of ancient
times.
In math students continue to work
on adding single and double-digit numbers.
We decompose the numbers so we can add in our minds using place
value. Our number talks are very
exciting with many students very excited to share their thinking. We completed our measurement unit and now our
focus is relating addition to measurement using number lines. This seems to be much more difficult as there
are so many parts in each story problem to consider.
In science we are beginning a new
unit this term. Second grade students are going to explore solids and
liquids. We have some explosive
experiments and some messy gak making coming up in the next few weeks. In addition
we will continue our science notebook journaling. We will also be trading
classes and learning from Mrs. Walker as well. It is certainly going to be a
fun unit.
Next week we will do our second
week of district testing in math and reading. This is a very low stress
assessment and it gives students opportunities to show what they know!
