Dear Families,
Our
first full week of school is complete.
It was a full week of community building and learning together. Thursday was the beginning of community time. What a joyful time, reuniting with old
friends and welcoming new friends. If
you have not attended a community time class you should come to Camas and check
it out.
In
homeroom we have certainly been busy.
This week our science focus included observing like a scientist. We
explored all five senses through a multitude of activities. Next week we are ready to dive into becoming
rock hounds! Keep an eye out for special
rocks as you are enjoying time with your families this weekend.
In
writing we completed our pet rocks and we are in the middle of writing our ‘Pet
Rock Books’. I am impressed with the creativity of this group. In math students completed their graphs and
we learned how to look at data and create data statements about our class. This weekend I am hoping to post the data
statements and photographs of their class graphs on our classroom blog. You can find the blog at http://classroomlink.blogspot.com I will talk more about the blog at curriculum
night, September 27th.
This
year our class has P.E. on Monday. Please don’t forget to send your child in
appropriate footwear. We are still
looking for library volunteers to help this year. Our library day will be on
Friday as soon as the volunteers have been scheduled.
Finally,
I have a couple of requests. If you are
able to donate class snack we would really appreciate it. Crackers, goldfish,
plain cereal, and fresh fruit or vegetables are always welcome. We have snack
everyday at 9:15. Also, if you have not
paid your classroom contribution I would appreciate you doing this as soon as
possible. It helps me defer the cost of
buying all the students’ school supplies this year. If finances are an issue,
you can request a scholarship for your family in the office.
This
week in the Friday folder you will find our first permission slip of the year.
We are going to the pumpkin patch. ALL
students must return the slip to attend the trip. Please send it back as soon as possible.
Also, our first book order of the year is in the Friday folder. When you order you help our class earn points
for free books. We already have requests
for new reading material. You can order online.
There is no need to send money to school. Reading is the key to learning!
Don’t
forget, tonight is the back to school picnic! Bring a picnic dinner and join us
from 5:00-7:00 pm for this annual community building event. Thank you for all
you do to make Camas Ridge an amazing community school.
